About Mosaic Maths:

Designed for teaching in UK schools for years 7–11.

At Mosaic Maths, every lesson begins with a retrieval starter designed to activate prior knowledge and prepare students for the lesson ahead. This starter not only helps to engage students but also provides an opportunity to address any gaps in understanding before progressing to the main content. The retrieval starter focuses on key skills and revisits methods from previous lessons within the current topic, with the difficulty increasing towards the end to challenge students of all achievement levels.

Following the retrieval starter, Mosaic Maths guides both teachers and students through a bespoke learning journey, where each stage of the process is clearly signposted. The "Conceptual Teaching" slides are a core part of this journey, providing dedicated support to help students grasp key concepts, ensuring they can confidently apply formal methods later on. For those who benefit from additional support, Mosaic Maths offers "Key Info and Ideas" printouts, providing a helpful reference for students who struggle with copying from the board.

Throughout the lesson, Mosaic Maths incorporates numerous AfL (Assessment for Learning) opportunities, such as mini whiteboards, turn-and-talk exercises, and multiple-choice questions. These AfL slides allow teachers to quickly assess understanding and address any misconceptions. Because the AfL techniques are small-scale and focused on individual elements of the learning process, they quickly provide valuable insights into the class's overall progress.

Mosaic Maths also includes "Worked Examples" slides, where teachers can model the process for solving specific types of questions. These slides are clearly labelled with set numbers, which correspond to printouts for students who need additional support. Plenty of space is provided on these slides for teachers to demonstrate solutions, and animations are available to assist with modelling if necessary. The animations are particularly useful for students who wish to revisit the lesson independently.

To reinforce the learning, Mosaic Maths provides independent work questions that follow directly from the teacher-led examples. These questions are often displayed on the board to reduce the need for printing. Where printing is necessary, worksheets are provided. The difficulty of the questions gradually increases, ensuring that all students, regardless of achievement levels, are appropriately challenged.

For students who finish quickly, Mosaic Maths offers Challenge worksheets that present more complex, problem-solving tasks. These worksheets indicate which questions are suitable to the student depending on which sets of worked examples have been completed. The challenge questions are embedded directly into the PowerPoint, allowing the teacher to delve into them if extra time is available.

Towards the end of the lesson, Mosaic Maths provides mixed independent work questions that test all the concepts covered during the session.

Each Mosaic Maths lesson concludes with a multiple-choice plenary activity, reinforcing the key learning points and providing a final opportunity for assessment.

All lessons come with answers and ensure that both text and images are appropriately sized for accessibility. Mosaic Maths seamlessly integrates worksheet questions and answers into the PowerPoint slides, providing a smooth and efficient teaching experience.

Mosaic Maths strives to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for maths teachers, ensuring that all the elements of teaching are well connected and easy to use – hence the name Mosaic Maths.
